This course teaches the essential groundwork skills every horse needs for safe, clear communication: stepping forward, stopping, and stepping back from light lead rope cues. Using ethical negative reinforcement paired with positive reinforcement, you’ll learn how to teach each behaviour in isolation, then combine them into smooth, connected sequences.

You’ll also add verbal cues to make your aids lighter and more versatile, and explore optional exercises for leading from the right-hand side and varying handler positions to expand your horse’s adaptability.

Through clear shaping plans, practical tips, and an emphasis on welfare-friendly methods, this course sets the foundation for confident, responsive in-hand work, preparing your horse for long reining, under-saddle training, and everyday handling.
